I’ve followed the Polaris slingshot for the longest time and now I finally saw one in real life!

My plan was to follow it wherever it went so I could get a picture and luckily we were both headed to smoothie king!

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I even talked to the owner (late 20s female) who said she had been following these since the concept 5 years ago and just had to have it.

She says she absolutely loves driving it and it was incredibly nice of her to talk about it with a random stranger at a smoothie king.

Definitely a cool start to Friday.

They’re growing on me, a lot. Though pricier than a motorcycle, I think I’d feel safer and it would be easier than learning how to ride a bike.

I saw one the other day just like that. Really is a bazaar looking vehicle

Agreed. I just want to drive one! I’m positive it would be a total blast to drive.

It was weird... the other day on the way home from visiting relatives, I saw not one, or two, but THREE Polaris Slingshots, and they were several miles apart from each other. Two red ones, and a white & blue one.

Evidently they are getting popular.

I imagine that it may be cheaper to sell these without the regulations for a car, since it has GM Ecotec parts, but is still a motorcycle due to three-wheels, rather than 4.

Ariel Atom and KTM X-bow are more expensive, and 4-wheeled... they might require more federalization, or costly regulatory exemptions or something.

Personally, I think I still kind of like the Can Am Spyder F3 a bit more, from an aesthetic standpoint, but it is not a side-by-side like Slingshot and Morgan Cyclecar are.

I don’t mind the Slingshot’s concept, but it still seems like a jumble of angles and parallelograms with very little visual flow or cohesion.

If only it were half as slick and cleanly styled as the panels on the BAC Mono, but affordable, and 3-wheeled. The aesthetic is similar, but Mono seems much less ‘jumbled’ and disorganized.

Wow, 3 in a day would be amazing!

I actually like the crazy looks of it. You will definitely get noticed by everyone and I just want to drive one!

You make a good point about the parts being basic gm engine. These may actually be pretty reliable. We shall see.

I saw one of these on the highway back in April...thought it was a bit chilly to be spending an extended amount of time in one.

I know I’ve seen three of them in the past month in my area....all were different colors.

A lot of heat comes through the floor from the engine bay. I’ve driven mine at highway speeds down to about 50 F, and as long as you wring out the motor properly it’ll keep you warm.

They’re almost all just like that. They only come in three colors so far: Grey, which has no windshield or radio, Red, and Orange, which is a fairly limited edition. Two per dealer I believe.

Despite the legal argument, it’s really not a motorcycle, or anything close. It’s much more like an ultralight roadster.

In VA you have to get a special license 3M or M3 for one, 3 wheeled motorcycle

Like I said, the laws seem to think otherwise (here in NM it just requires a regular motorcycle license), but in terms of driving characteristics it feels just like a very light, very open car.

Until you straddle a line of gravel/sand and wonder why you suddenly have no traction.

That single back wheel makes me a bit cautious about driving in less that perfect conditions. And since va is forever working on their roads the traction issue may be brought into question.
